Hey there, it's the now-unofficial support member here to write a little message that I hope everyone will see.

Stop donating your money to MistForums. As told multiple, multiple times, MistForums is a dead project and since being sold, has clearly not been worked on. This is not to say it will never be worked on again, it's just that in the almost 2 years since it received new ownership, changes have not been made. If at any point, the new owner does begin working on MistForums, I'm sure the community will be informed by them - this has not happened yet though.

Until further notice is given by the new owner, stop spending your money. It's almost upsetting reading the support tickets at this point. You are wasting your money. MistForums is not currently being worked on and everyone should know this by now. If you continue to throw your money at the brick wall that is MistForums after reading this post, it's really just natural selection at that point.

I hope this post will bring people considering donating to their senses. I will attempt to contact the owner, but I do not hold out high hopes for that. This does not mean you cannot still use MistForums, I'm sure you can continue to make it work; just do not spend your money on MistForums.

Thank you for reading

Important infomation regarding Mistforums

Written by
The Dark Dane
Hello all users,

a lot of you is probably wondering about a lot of things regarding mistforums such as, why is bugs not being fixed?, why is no new features coming?, or why is there no support being given?

The simple answer in the minds of many users i've spoken to, and including my own, is that the developer abandonded Mistforums, that however isn't actually the case.

I spoke to one of the Staff Members (Flame) this morning regarding the situation surrounding Mistforums, our conversation:

Me: Hey there, i added you regarding Mistforums, i gotta admit im quiet confused as of why Mistforums has just been abandonded, considering that many people still use or want to use Mistforums, also a lot that actually likes mistforums are beginning to look for other options, including myself i'll have to admit, as no support is being given (which is why i've begon to give as much support as i can, and get as much knowledge about Mistforums and all the diffrent bugs there is, and how to solve them). Also as of my knowledge Mistforums haven't been worked on for a very long time (or am i wrong here?), with no bug fixes, no updated or new features. Mistforums still have a lot of potential but has just been abandonded?.

Flame: As much as i have to admit it you are right on it all, Mistforums was sold a while back, i don't know if the new owner has just abandonded or just haven't recieved access, but you for sure is right.

Me: Ahh, i see. I didn't know that Mistforums got sold, do you know by any chance when this happend?.

Flame: Not many people know it was sold, as it wasn't announced at any point, as for your question i'm not 100% sure exactly when it was sold but roughly 6+ months ago.

Me: Alright, thank you very much.

So that pretty much sums up the lack of Support, Bug Fixes, Updates, etc.

We can only hope that Mistforums gets back into developement in the near future, but nothing is certain.

Regarding support Flame has told me he will begin to be more active on the forums again, and we have also "joined" forces and we will both be giving support at the Discord Server named "Mistforums Help Discord" that i made @ https://discord.gg/D9b8h2q simply join the server, go to #help-channel and type /new to open a support ticket and we will be with you ASAP.

Please Note: Personal / Private support tickets will not be handled on the discord server, use the forum support for that.

Yours Truly,

Hello all,

After a brief discussion, we have decided to open a single vacancy for the MistForums Support Team. Becoming a MistForums Support Member is an awesome opportunity to engage with the MistForums community and learn a lot. Here are a few perks that come with being a MistForums Support Member:

  • Lots to learn about different coding languages, such as; JavaScript, HTML, CSS and PHP.
  • You get to engage largely with the community members and your peers.
  • You are able act as a person to talk to and (or) a role model to community members.
  • Most days you will be put in a situation which may be challenging, exhilarating or odd, in the end you will always learn something you did not know.
  • + More!

But of course, not just anyone can be a Support Member. We do have somewhat strict requirements to become a Support Member, failure to meet any of these requirements will result in your almost definite denial.

  • Being a Support Member, you will face situations which are difficult a lot. You must be able to act maturely and always remain professional in these situations and never lose your temper, you're here to help.
  • You must be 16 years of age or above.
  • You must always maintain a high level of respect, patience and professionalism.
  • You must have good knowledge of MistForums, no point recruiting someone who knows nothing!
  • We would like for you to have good knowledge of HTML and CSS, which are the two main languages you will be faced with upon becoming a Support Member. If you would like to learn these coding languages the best place to do so is Here.

On becoming a MistForums Support Member, you will be required to meet and follow the expectations and rules of a Support Member, which will be undisclosed on this post, you will be told about the rules and expectations upon passing your application.

To apply for this role, you must contact Flame via steam, simply inform him that you wish to apply for the role of Support Member at MistForums and he will get back to you ASAP. If he does not get back to you straight away then do not repeat your message, preferably you should just write a short message telling him you are here to apply for Support and just wait until he replies. You may have to wait a few days over your application period as he may not be here at all times. If he does not accept you after a few days or he has you blocked, contact me via Private Message or Steam.

Here are a few personal tips for your application period:

  • First impressions are important, make a very good first impression to Flame as that will definitely help you out later on.
  • Be patient, no-one is here 24/7.
  • Answer every question in your application with detail and put a lot of thought into it. A good time to take on your application would be 20-30 minutes.

If you have any other questions about this, Private Message me.

Best Regards and Good Luck!

DDoS protection improved, performance increased.

Written by
Woadie
So in the past few days, you will notice Mistforums has had a bit of downtime, we are sorry.
This was due to a huge botnet and a layer 7 attack which was much more lethal than anything we have faced previously.

We are happy to say that we have now solved the attack and improved our infrastructure for the future to prevent this from happening again.

We did a few things in the past week, lets break it down:

1) We have completely switched our hosts.
They were not helpful in anyway about the attack and the infrastructure of our host made it increasingly harder to handle the attack.
Their network protection and protocol was disappointing and suboptimal.

2) We are now on dedicated resources, not shared.
This improves speed tremendously, the servers we use right now are completely reserved for Mistforums only.
Our website would occasionally be a few milliseconds slower due to neighboring owners on our shared server, issue begone.

3) We are now under DDoS protection on a network level.
We are using a third party company that specifies in network protection and have many protocols for filtering common attacks.
Please note, this doesn't mean we will never get a DDoS again, it would be wrong to say.
We are just under alot more protection now.

3) European Servers are coming soon.
Our new host allows us to create an Anycast network.
To put it in layman's terms, this means we can redirect traffic based off geographic location and point users towards closer servers for improved latency.
This will improve the speed dramatically for our European users.

Thank you for using mistforums and sorry for the downtime.
We will be monitoring performance for the next few weeks specifically and ensuring that downtime is down.

Our new web driven donation system, no more hard coded config.

Written by
Woadie
Hey guys, our new donation system has finally finished!

This update includes getting rid of the in-game configuration and donation panel and presenting all of its beauty within the website.

This allows much easier modification of modifying your donation items and doesn't require any code knowledge on your part.

We also will have a much easier admin manager for removing and adding tokens for your players.

As well as a better history log for donations to backtrack on previous donations.

The update will be pushed within the next day or two, and I will be standing closely to make sure to fix any minor bugs that may arise.

If you have a suggestion for more donation item functions, please make a reply down below and I will see what we can do.

Please expect a few changes over the new few days for finished polish of the system if need be.

Thank you for using Mistforums, hope you enjoy this update!

Themes removed, design improved, more components added, improved database.

Written by
Woadie
Today I have an update to improve the overall general quality and usability of MistForums.
There isn't really any new features, this is really an improvement of the foundation and features we have already.

Theme system has been removed
Themes created tons of extra code base to maintain, and became outdated quickly with any marginal update globally to the forum software.
The components system has been expanded, to substitute some of the features we lost from removing themes.
Being completely component driven allows more room for customization and uniqueness and solves the issue with maintaining code structures.

Design improved
Some of the design has been remade and created to follow conventions better, this gives pages a better consistent flow and helps with understanding whats going on.
There is still more room to improve it, of course; the turtle wins the race.

More components added
Some features that were in themes have been compiled into components which you can decide to activate or deactivate.

Improved database
You don't really know what happened to it, but it does effect your forum.
I simplified the database to make it easier to work with, creating less bugs and easier to modify.

SSL Improved
The certificate system has been broken for a while.
It has been fixed. ( gotta test 100% )

Something is wrong with my forum:

  • Post ratings have been wiped unfortunately from improving the database structure, you will have to readd your post ratings.
  • Your design may look a bit off because of the theme system being removed, be sure to check out the component system to see if you enable some of the features you want.
  • If you added your logo, favicon or user header in the last 5 days prior to this message, you will have to reupload it again.

If its something else, please make a support ticket.
Thank you!

New Component: Smaller Navbar

Hey Guys,

Wanting the smaller navbar on a theme that isn't Shadow 2 or Round Theme? Well, it's out now. It's no longer a default for Shadow 2 and Round Theme. Now you have an option to enable it if you want.

Leave feedback if you like it.

Regards,
TasiD

Up-Coming Theme Updates

Hey guys,

As most of the older members know, during the massive MistForums updates, themes main colors were changed to default. Here are my plans for theme's in the next 2 weeks:

Sleek Theme;
- Change it's initial design back to what it was, while fixing a few bugs and all.

Linear Theme;
- Will stay the same, however, a few fixes are currently required.

Round Theme;
- BETA will be closed by this weekend, just need to work on a few things with it.

SSL has been added back, but beware!

Written by
Woadie
I have re-enabled SSL certificate creation, the reason it was originally disabled was due to a bug that was causing all forums redirect to one forum.

The source of the bug has unfortunately not been found due to it being disabled.

I expect to see the error arise within the next few days with users enabling SSL on their websites, and then I can find the solution to the problem.

So beware, but thanks for using mistforums!

MistForums Logo Change, No more monthly payments, percentage based. Theme design revamped.

Written by
Woadie

  1. Logo has been redesigned to something much more aesthetic.

  2. Monthly payments are now a thing of a past, we now take a small percentage (6%) of donations processed through MistForums, we only make money when you do!

  3. The theme builder was failing in terms of what I really wanted for it, the design panel now gives you the exact features to see in real time, and you dont have to spend anytime copying/pasting code.

  4. We now populate new forums with common categories.

  5. All new forums follow the same design as mistchat, this keeps a constant flow for developement in the future.

Some designs on your forum are probably a little screwed up due to the new theme design, clear out all your forum css / head / javascript code and set your theme to default to start over again.

Thank you for using MistForums!

Recent downtime explaination

Written by
Woadie

Sorry everyone, as you can see as the past 2 days or so, we have been having some issues occuring, "out of memory"

The server had something corrupted when I upgraded the hardware.

I had to roll it back and restore the database, everything should be fine now.

Thank you!

Cloudflare integration has failed!

Written by
Woadie

So if you already can tell from the mass email eariler today, or the fact that mistforums was down for a few hours due to DNS migrations. T

he whole purpose was to jump onto cloudflare so we can have the benefits of well managed traffic handling as well as DDoS protection.

Unfortunately it has failed and I have submitted a support ticket, but had to revert back the changes.

Sorry for the downtime, I am trying to improve the security layer of the product, hopefully you understand this is all to make your experience better in the long run.

Thanks.

If you own a premium forum, you can now literally install SSL to your forum with ONE click of a button.

This is what makes your url start with https:// and gives you that nice professional green lock on the side of the url browser.

Time to create your own theme with the Theme Builder!

Written by
Woadie

Hey everyone, just real quick I want to thank everyone so far for using MistForums and expect many more updates to come!

I added a theme editor that will allow you to add components, edit the main theme color, and change themes with your own customization without being a coder.

The theme editor is pretty basic at the moment, as just a proof of concept, but it works well.

More components and theme bases will be added but for now just play around with it.
